Have you remembered that this weekend 19th/20th September is usually London Open House weekend? Of course this year things are somewhat different, so some buildings will be open, but others like our Ilford Hospital Chapel are creating an on-line presence.

To make it easy for you to take a look at the Chapel’s video slideshow go to
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCROII-BU1j_Rp8ZgrIRlHvg. If you need longer to look at a particular slide please use the pause video control at the bottom of the screen.
We also have a wonderful 360deg video of the Chapel interior created for us by the Redbridge Heritage Centre, which you can view at https://kuula.co/post/7H0v7/collection/7PhZd .

Full details of all the London buildings participating can be found by downloading the Open House App.

A Return to Worship – Just not yet!

The recent announcement by Her Majesty’s Government, that places of worship can resume services subject to Social Distancing of 1 metre or more is permissive only.

Having carried out a thorough risk assessment of the Chapel and given that it is not a Parish Church, I have concluded, sadly, that resuming services at this time is not a safe thing to do.

Accordingly and until the situation improves further the Chapel and its grounds will remain closed.

Friends of the Ilford Hospital Chapel – Annual General Meeting.

The Annual General Meeting of the Friends which was set for  Thursday 11th June 2020 at 2.00pm  – Is Postponed until the autumn, subject to the lifting of the current COVID-19 restrictions on meetings in enclosed spaces – details will follow when circumstances allow.

Under normal circumstances

The Hospital Chapel has a series of OPEN DAYS each year – please see the programme listed on the website or check with the Chapel Office to find out the dates. The hours are usually 10 am to 2.00 pm. Admission is free. Guided tours are available and stalls offer memorabilia and other items. Refreshments are also available.

On the third Saturday in November, we usually have a Chapel Bazaar – for more details see Friends.

We have arranged many private tours for different schools, societies and groups over the past years. The groups vary in size but are usually about 15-20 people. It is not really possible to deal with this number during Open Days and, in any case, the organisers prefer to have a private time when their people can ask questions etc. We do not charge for this but usually provide refreshments and most groups kindly give us a donation to cover costs etc. If you are a member of a group who would be interested to take advantage of this arrangement, please telephone the Chapel Office and we will be pleased to discuss possibilities with you.

Please also see Chapel Services

The main entrance to the Chapel is through a gated wall on Ilford Hill; both the courtyard and the Chapel itself are wheelchair accessible. We also have an entrance door at the back of the Chapel – accessible via Read’s Close – again suitable for wheelchairs, frames, buggies etc.
