COVID-19

From the Bishop of Chelmsford and other Bishops concerning London

We have all heard the strong calls from the Mayor and the Prime Minister not to leave home unless it is essential, and not to use public transport unless we have to. If our attempts to distance ourselves physically from one another and prevent the spread of infection are not effective, more people will die.

Although the situation is starting to improve we are far from being clear of the virus. Thus, all public worship and access to church grounds continues to be suspended .

Under normal circumstances

The Hospital Chapel has a series of OPEN DAYS each year – please see the programme listed on the website or check with the Chapel Office to find out the dates. The hours are usually 10 am to 2.00 pm. Admission is free. Guided tours are available and stalls offer memorabilia and other items. Refreshments are also available.

On the third Saturday in November, we usually have a Chapel Bazaar – for more details see Friends.

We have arranged many private tours for different schools, societies and groups over the past years. The groups vary in size but are usually about 15-20 people. It is not really possible to deal with this number during Open Days and, in any case, the organisers prefer to have a private time when their people can ask questions etc. We do not charge for this but usually provide refreshments and most groups kindly give us a donation to cover costs etc. If you are a member of a group who would be interested to take advantage of this arrangement, please telephone the Chapel Office and we will be pleased to discuss possibilities with you.

Please also see Chapel Services

The main entrance to the Chapel is through a gated wall on Ilford Hill; both the courtyard and the Chapel itself are wheelchair accessible. We also have an entrance door at the back of the Chapel – accessible via Read’s Close – again suitable for wheelchairs, frames, buggies etc.
